The Update on Julian

  • Thanks to those who have inquired...here's the update...

The update on my darling little 2 year old boy is that he is still staving off the inevitable dialysis. His kidney function is holding steady in the 12% range, and we are waiting to see if my Uncle is a match or not. If he is a match, we will schedule the surgery and get my son a new kidney! If he's not a match, we will succumb to dialysis while we wait on the kidney transplant list. It could be up to a year, but if that is what is to be, then that is what is to be.

We are very much enjoying this interrim period, though, which we have had basically since we brought him home from the NICU over 2 years ago, where he is not on dialysis nor is he having to take all the anti-rejection medications (which come with their own risks of different types of cancers, stunted growth, infections, etc etc...)

As far as little Julian knows, nothing is wrong with him! We found out from our insurance that they only pay a bit of the donor's surgery, whether it is a live donor or cadaveric kidney, so we are teaming up with www.cota.org which is a non-profit "Children's Organ Transplant Association." They will teach us how to do fund raisers so that people can donate to them (tax-deductible) on Julian's behalf. Then they help offset the transplant-related expenses. Yay! I got the packet last week and I have to delve into it and get us signed up. Julian's website for updates is www.julianxane.blogspot.com , and his original website is www.julianxane.com . His middle name is "Xane" (pronounced Zane).

    Have a great week, y'all!
